NOTE: The following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of the special edition of “November Ever After.”
November Ever After: Marshall’s Triumph Over Tragedy by Craig T. Greenlee is a compelling memoir that delves into the heart-wrenching story of the 1970 Marshall plane crash, a devastating event in American sports history. Through vivid narratives and intimate recollections, Greenlee recounts the harrowing night of the crash and the subsequent journey of grief and resilience.
One of the most striking aspects of the book is its exploration of the racial tensions that existed on campus before the tragedy. The crash catalyzed unity, bringing together a divided community. Greenlee also sheds light on the prophetic warning that saved a player's life and the power of faith and resilience in the face of unimaginable loss.
The memoir uncovers untold stories and history, offering insights far beyond the headlines. It provides a deeper understanding of how tragedy can shape and define our lives while celebrating the strength of the human spirit and the power of community.
In addition to its poignant portrayal of grief and resilience, November Ever After also sheds light on the painstaking process of rebuilding that Marshall University undertook in the aftermath of the tragedy. The book chronicles the school's unwavering determination to revive its football program despite overwhelming odds.
Through meticulous research and heartfelt storytelling, Greenlee captures the agonizingly slow yet ultimately triumphant journey from despair to stardom. It is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of hope in the face of adversity.
I liked that Greenlee offers his perspective on the film We Are Marshall, giving readers a better understanding of fact and Hollywood fiction. I also appreciated the book’s educational aspects, like explaining the concept of homegoing, a tradition of the black church to express joy when loved ones pass away.
Moreover, the book contains minimal formatting and grammatical errors, making it a professionally edited and enjoyable read. I have no criticism. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.
November Ever After is not just a book about a plane crash. It is a powerful exploration of human resilience, the strength of community, and the indomitable will to move forward in the face of adversity. The book is a must-read for anyone seeking inspiration, insight, and a deeper understanding of human experience.
