Almost a year ago, I shared some deeply personal memories during an interview about the 1970 Marshall plane crash, just days before my keynote at Marshall University’s Memorial Fountain Ceremony. 

It was my first time attending, and the experience was powerful and emotional. I lost a lot of teammates the night of Nov. 14, 1970, including my best friend, Scottie Reese, who was set to be my best man for my wedding in December.
